Last week, The Grove had the distinct pleasure of welcoming Shan Masood, the current captain of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the Pakistan Test team. It was an exciting experience for our Year 8 and 9 cricketer boys and girls, who had the unique opportunity to engage with a professional of Shan’s calibre. His visit was not just a meet-and-greet but a profound learning experience that certainly had an impact on our budding cricketers.

During his visit, Shan held an insightful Q&A session where he shared his extensive knowledge and experience in the world of cricket. He stressed the importance of balancing education with sports, urging the pupils to strive for excellence in both areas. Shan highlighted that every individual’s journey is unique and that comparing oneself to others is less important than focusing on personal growth and development.

Shan also imparted three invaluable tips for achieving success. First, he underscored the significance of persistence, encouraging students to keep showing up regardless of circumstances. He pointed out that consistency is within one’s control and is crucial for learning and growth. Second, he emphasized the necessity of giving 100% effort and always going the extra mile, as hard work and dedication are indispensable. Lastly, Shan advised maintaining a positive attitude, stating that one’s reaction to various situations can shape their journey. His words were inspiring and left the students motivated to pursue their cricketing dreams with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.

Not only did Shan share this wisdom but he also took the pupils out to the nets to go over his pre match battering drills.

Thank you, Shan, for coming to visit us and sharing your knowledge with our pupils and staff!
