Shape your pathway to suit you.
No two students are the same, which is why our Sixth Form is designed to offer more options than just subject choices. Select your combination of A-levels, perhaps add an EPQ. Opt for up to 60 days of industry experience with one of our partner businesses. Take one of the BTECs we offer.
Whichever pathway you pick, we’ll tailor your timetable to suit you.
Whether you plan to go on to university, a Degree Apprenticeship or straight into work, or if you’re undecided, our Sixth Form will prepare you for your next step.
Your future starts here.
Our forward-thinking Sixth Form is designed to prepare you fully – emotionally and academically – for life after The Grove.
Your tutor group will be tailored, to complement your choices. Learning from a teacher with relevant expertise alongside like-minded peers, these sessions will help steer your future.
To help our students make their dream for the future a reality, tutor groups are formed according to their career aspirations. Each group is led by a Form Tutor with specialist knowledge in that field. Forms are a mix of Y12 and Y13 pupils, to give students insight into a diverse, enriching range of perspectives.
Our approach means form periods are filled with guest speakers and discussions on the issues relevant to our students’ interests. Ultimately, these weekly lessons provide rare and invaluable insight into their future career path, informing their studies and preparing them for interviews and the workplace.

Life Skills Programme.
This programme teaches our pupils the life skills they will require once they leave Woodhouse Grove – and includes exposure to some of the challenges they will face in later life, to make the next steps easier.
Covering topics like financial planning, first aid, drug awareness and careers talks, these sessions give pupils vital skills they will be able to call upon in life after Woodhouse Grove.
All our Sixth Form pupils take part in these fortnightly sessions. Some of are delivered to the whole year group but others are more bespoke, catering to specific career fields or can be signed up to by the pupil.
Partnerships
Our Sixth Form Partnership Programme recognises the importance of developing skills that will be required beyond school and helps our pupils prepare for moving into the workplace, whether that is straight after school, or after university. Having significant industry experience on their CV when leaving school will make our pupils stand out from their peers.
Pupils spend time with one of our Business Partners, either as week blocks and/or day/half day work placements – or a combination of these. This can be between 30 and 60 days each year. The placements are fitted around A Levels and/or BTEC(s)/Diplomas and may also take place during school holiday times.
Pupils will have an interview with the business partner that they are interested in, and then together we will put together a bespoke programme. Pupils will be visited in the workplace regularly by a member of school staff and all placements will be appropriately health and safety checked.
These placements will allow pupils to build their skills, experience the work environment, and find out about the different careers available within that business.
Exam Results
The 2020 A Level pass rate was 99%, with 50% of the year group achieving ABB or better.
Despite the challenges faced in recent months, our 2020 Year 13s have been a tremendous group of young people to teach. They worked particularly hard throughout their A Level courses and so it was with a real sense of disappointment that the students did not get the opportunity to sit their exams this summer.
Whilst we celebrate the outstanding results of our academic high flyers, who have achieved complete sets of A*s and As, we are equally as proud of those for whom academic achievement comes less easily but have risen to the challenge and exceeded expectations.
The school A Level results 2020 are as follows:
The A*-E pass rate 99%
The A*-A pass rate 44%
The A*-B pass rate 69%
The A*-C pass rate 87%
Further examination results and details are available on request to the Sixth Form team.
