Sixth Form Bridging information

Dear Students

Many students find the ‘step-up’ from GCSE to Sixth Form harder than they imagined. Some of you will be starting subjects you have never studied before and there will be concepts and vocabulary that will be new to you.

You will find below all subjects that are offered in the Sixth Form and there are specific tasks within each subject that have been designed to help you manage that transition. It contains material for all the courses we offer in Year 12: some is quite easy; some is quite challenging. Please go to the relevant subjects for what you are interested in or thinking of taking in the Sixth Form and try the set tasks. Your teachers will aim to refer to this material in your introduction lessons of Year 12. If you are not yet sure about your choices, then this gives you the opportunity to research a wider range of courses and may help you make a final decision.

We look forward to seeing you in September and please do not hesitate to contact us if you need our help between now and the start of Year 12.

Mr Softley - Assistant Head (Sixth Form and Futures)

You will also find pages that relate to career advice and guidance, Life Skills, performing arts and physical activity.

Previous years have found the bridging materials helpful and the students commented on how it was useful to get an idea of what the different courses entail. You will find a section with contact details for key staff and we would welcome communication at any stage. This might be to find out more about a particular subject or course; to get some feedback on some tasks; to find out more about our co-curricular activities or to get some extension activities.

The overall aim is to try and prepare you and to get you in the right mindset for your Sixth Form journey at The Grove. This is your Sixth Form experience and now is the time to begin your journey!
