Private Examinations

As a Methodist School we take pride in the fulfillment of our charitable responsibilities, which, includes our private candidate provision.  However, changes in legislation in recent years have made delivering this breadth of provision increasingly challenging. After an extensive review, the difficult decision has been reached that the private candidate provision, in its current format, is not sustainable for our school.  We understand this decision will impact many candidates, and it has not been taken lightly. It is not our intention to stop taking private candidates all together, but our structure and focus must shift to a format is sustainable and manageable for our centre, so we can continue to help learners in our community, safely, albeit on a smaller scale.

The following qualifications are available to private candidates with this centre:

–  IGCSE English Language (Edexcel – 4EB1) Autumn and Summer – RESIT ONLY
– GCSE English Language (Edexcel – 1EN2) Autumn and Summer – RESIT ONLY
– GCSE English Language (AQA – 8700) Autumn and Summer – RESIT ONLY
– IGCSE Mathematics (Edexcel – 4MA1) Autumn and Summer – RESIT ONLY
– GCSE Mathematics (Edexcel – 1MA0) Autumn and Summer – RESIT ONLY
– GCSE Mathematics (AQA – 8300) Autumn and Summer – RESIT ONLY
– A level Biology (AQA – 7402) Summer – RESIT ONLY
– A level Chemistry (AQA – 7405) Summer – RESIT ONLY
– A level Economics (AQA – 7136) Summer
– A level Mathematics (Edexcel – 9MA0) Summer
– A level Physics (AQA – 7408) Summer – RESIT ONLY
– A level Psychology (AQA – 7182) Summer
– A level Sociology (AQA – 7192) Summer

Individuals who have a pre-existing relationship with the school (e.g. Old Grovians) who wish to be entered for qualifications not listed above will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please email exams@woodhousegrove.co.uk if you are in this position and wish to apply for a place to take exams privately at Woodhouse Grove, stating clearly your pre-existing relationship with the school.

We recognise that there will be some candidates who took examinations with us in Summer 2024 who find that they need to re-sit. Therefore, as part of the transition to our new private exams structure we will also accept applications for IGCSE/GCSE Maths and English Language (all boards) for Autumn 2024 from any candidate who took these qualifications in Summer 2024 and wishes to re-sit.

Applications for the Autumn 2024

Our application form for Autumn 2024 will open on 2^nd September.

Entry deadlines:

– Edexcel IGCSE: Wednesday 11^th September 2024
– CIE IGCSE: Wednesday 18^th September 2024
– GCSE (all boards): Wednesday 2^nd October 2024

Please note:

No further applications will be accepted after the entry deadline has passed.
Fees must be paid before the entry deadline, any application with outstanding fees after the entry deadline will be deleted.

Applications for the Summer 2025

Our application form for Summer 2025 will open on 4^th November.

Entry deadlines:

– All boards, all qualifications: Wednesday 12^th February
(Entries accepted from Monday 4^th November 2024.)

Please note:

– No further applications will be accepted after the entry deadline has passed.
– Late fees will be applied to any summer application with outstanding fees after the entry deadline.
– All summer fees must be paid by 14^th March 2025 (all boards except CIE).
– Summer fees for CIE exams must be paid by 20^th February 2025.
– Any application with outstanding fees after 14^th March 2025 (or 20^th February 2025 for CIE entries) will be deleted.
