We are delighted to announce that our new Head Prefects for this school year are:

Sophia Nwachukwu

and Charlie Plein.

We asked Sophia and Charlie a few questions to find out more about them…

When did you join the Grove?

Sophia: I joined in Year 7.

Charlie: Me too!

What are you both studying for A Level?

Sophia: I am studying English Literature, English Language, Psychology and Philosophy.

Charlie: Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I also did German and Finance last year

Marketing (amazed): German and Finance A levels last year?!

Charlie: Yes – but my parents are German so that one was pretty straight forward!

What co-curricular activities have you enjoyed at the Grove?

Sophia: Project Performance – where we create and perform our own plays, writing and singing.

Charlie: I play rugby, like going to the gym and swimming. In the summer, tennis.

What would you like to do when you leave the Grove?

Charlie: I am applying to read Engineering at Cambridge. I would eventually like to start my own business.

Sophia: I’m also applying to Cambridge – to read English. My ambition is to become an author.

What is the most important thing the Grove has taught you?

Sophia: Diligence. Also, when I first joined the Grove, I found it difficult to move out of my comfort zone. But then, in Year 8, I became a Prefect and this helped me gain confidence and break down my barriers.

Charlie: Going the extra mile; that when you complete a task, there is always some way to keep going and make it better. Also, confidence. All the little roles like being a Prefect and having to make speeches in front of the class help you grow in character.

What is your favourite memory from your time at the Grove?

Charlie: Possibly the ski trip we went on in Year 9.

Sophia: Yes – that was a good trip!

Charlie: …the skiing, the people, that first taste of freedom…

Sophia: My favourite memory is going to Uganda. It was a wonderful trip; seeing the bravery and resilience of the people and being able to help them and forge lasting friendships.

What are you most looking forward to in your role as Head Prefect?

Charlie: The speeches!

Sophia: Helping the younger years. I remember the Head Girl when I was in Year 7. She was my inspiration to apply for the role! I looked at her then and thought that this was who I wanted to be when I was in the Sixth Form.

And finally, that most important of questions:

What is your favourite school dinner?

Sophia: Sausages followed by a cookie.

Charlie: Chilli and brownies!

We wish Charlie and Sophia the very best for their year ahead as Head Prefects. They will kick off their duties welcoming potential new Grovians (and possibly, future Head Prefects!) and their families at our Open Morning on Saturday 18th September.

I am everything I want to be
