It’s not very often you find 2 racing cars in the playground – so we certainly made the most of it when Year 13 pupil and competitive racer, Moh Ritson brought his co-driver Sarah Moore and 2 Tockwith Motorsport cars to the Grove for the day.
Year 7 had lots of questions about the speed and power of the cars, enjoyed listening to Moh talk about how he got involved in racing and loved it when he revved the engine!
Years 8, 9 and 11 enjoyed a Design & Technology lesson with a difference, learning about the aerodynamic properties of the cars, the roles of the mechanics team and careers in engineering.
This information also proved useful to scientists from Years 12 and 13 – who expanded their learning with a focus on the engine and the physics of driving.
Our BTEC Sports students were provided with a fascinating insight into the world of competitive motor racing with a focus on driver perspective – including information on fitness, concentration and the role of the media.
Finally, our photography students were let loose and given the opportunity to take some pictures of the cars – although, it would be fair to say that a high percentage of the school in general – both students and staff – couldn’t resist a quick look and snap!
Moh showed a startling talent from the very first time his parents took him go karting as a young child but took up competitive racing in 2017 at the age of 15 when he was spotted by Tockwith Motorsport. He now competes in the Britcar Dunlop Endurance Championship which comprises of 8 races across the UK’s most prestigious tracks, culminating in a night at Brands Hatch on 9-10th November 2019.
Moh is part of the school’s Grove Athlete Education Programme (GAEP), which provides students competing at International, National, Regional or County level, or who have been signed by a professional academy, with the support they require to enable them to coordinate academic life around their sporting commitments – and maximise their potential.
We are thrilled to be able to support this rising star and were privileged to learn so much from him and his Tockwith Motorsports team.
I am my unlocked potential.
I am Grovian.
