A warm welcome to Malika and Mohiudden
Back in 2018, we were delighted to establish an innovative collaboration with One in A Million Free School (OIAMFS), Bradford. A key aim of the partnership was to encourage pupils to consider what lies beyond their existing social, intellectual and cultural experience and both schools agreed to share best practice, resources and facilities in teaching and learning, keeping the interests of pupils as the focus.
A very special element to the collaboration was the formal agreement that Woodhouse Grove would award two full Sixth Form bursary places per annum to promising OIAMFS Year 11 leavers. This September, we welcomed Malika Mahmood and Mohiudden Kabiri into the Grove community. We asked them what their experience of the Grove has been like so far…
What subjects are you studying?
Mohiudden: I am currently studying A-level Maths, Chemistry and Physics
Malika: A-level Biology, Chemistry and Maths
What plans / ambitions do you have for when you leave The Grove?
Malika: I would like to go to university to study forensic science.
Mohiudden: I hope to achieve a career in engineering, most likely chemical engineering since that is my dream job
What has your experience of The Grove been like so far? Is it what you expected?
Malika: Woodhouse Grove is so different to my previous school. It presents more opportunities to me, which I would never have had at my old school. Everyone has been really warm and welcoming.
Mohiudden: My experience at Woodhouse Grove has been quite different than what I experienced in my previous school. Especially with A- levels, Woodhouse Grove feels like a school that offers lots of opportunities.
What is your favourite thing about The Sixth Form at The Grove?
Malika: My favourite thing is the wide range of people at The Grove – I seem to have met lots of different people.
What is your favourite lunch?
Mohiudden: The pizza and chips is my favourite lunch that I eat here, and the doughnuts that they serve are spectacular.
Malika: It has to be any of the desserts!
What important lessons did you learn at OIAM that have helped you at The Grove?
Malika: I learnt that it is important to talk to as many different people as you can to give you a better understanding of human nature and to give you better communication skills and improve your confidence.
Mohiudden: I learnt that I must persevere even through the most difficult challenges, and that I should always try to achieve the best possible outcome that I can.
We wish Mohiudden and Malika all the best for the rest of their time here at the Grove. We are sure that these Two in a Million Grovians will go on to achieve great things.
I am my unlocked potential.
I am Grovian.
