A new home for golf at The Grove
Golf took centre stage at Woodhouse Grove this September as we officially launched the Grove Golf Academy, welcoming golfing legend Colin Montgomerie MBE to open our impressive new golf studio.
The occasion marked an exciting new chapter for sport at The Grove, with the introduction of a dedicated, on-site Golf Academy that brings together specialist coaching, outstanding facilities and opportunities for pupils at every stage of their golfing development.
As guest of honour, Colin Montgomerie shared his experience and insights with pupils and guests through a Q&A and golf demonstration, providing an inspiring start to the Academy and a memorable occasion for everyone involved.
At the heart of the Academy is our new golf studio, equipped with two state-of-the-art TrackMan systems and led by Nathan Stead, our newly appointed Head of Golf. The facility gives pupils access to specialist coaching on site, removing the need to travel for regular training and making golf a more accessible part of school life.
The programme extends well beyond the studio. Through access to The Bradford Golf Club, pupils can take their skills onto the course, while strength and conditioning sessions make use of the School’s wider sporting facilities to support fitness, technique and performance.
For pupils in Years 7–11, the Academy offers opportunities for everyone, from complete beginners discovering golf for the first time to established players looking to take their game further. Alongside group coaching after school, the Emerging Golf Pathway provides a more focused programme for pupils with a particular passion and ambition for the sport.
In the Sixth Form, two distinct pathways allow pupils to shape golf around their academic ambitions. The Golf Performance Academy combines academic study, structured training and competitive commitments within a coordinated timetable, supported by individual mentoring and regular performance reviews. The Golf Development Academy offers a more flexible programme, with tailored coaching during private study periods or after school.
With competitive fixtures, golf tours and opportunities to represent the School also forming part of the programme, the Academy offers much more than access to a golf studio. It creates a clear pathway for pupils to discover, develop and pursue their ambitions in the sport.
Colin Montgomerie’s visit was a fitting way to mark the beginning. The facilities are ready, the coaching is in place and a new generation of Grove golfers now has the opportunity to make the most of something truly special.
