Woodhouse Grove School launches the region’s only school-based Golf Academy

Woodhouse Grove School has announced the launch of the Grove Golf Academy, a pioneering new programme that will make it the only school in the region to offer a dedicated on-site golf academy combining elite coaching, cutting-edge TrackMan technology and an exclusive partnership with Bradford Golf Club.

The academy launches at a time when junior golf participation is increasing across the UK, creating new opportunities for young players to combine academic study with sporting development. Pupils of all abilities will have the chance to develop their golf skills under the expert guidance of Golf Professional, Nathan Stead.

Two state-of-the-art TrackMan systems will be installed on the Woodhouse Grove site, with pupils also benefitting from the school’s exceptional sports facilities – including a 25m pool, professional gym and cutting-edge training spaces – as part of their golf programme.

In addition, Woodhouse Grove has established an exclusive partnership with The Bradford Golf Club, an outstanding course and championship-hosting venue. Grove Golf Academy pupils will enjoy on-course lessons alongside their school-based Trackman sessions.

The Grove Golf Academy will provide a range of programmes for pupils of different ages and abilities.

  • There will be group lessons for beginners and those with a mid to high handicap in Years 7-11
  • The Sixth Form Development Academy will enable pupils in Years 12 and 13 to develop their game during study periods or after school through tailored coaching sessions, access to TrackMan technology and on-course lessons.
  • The bespoke Golf Performance Academy for Sixth Form students will integrate academic study with elite golf development; each pupil’s academic timetable will be carefully aligned with golf lessons, training sessions and competitive commitments and pupils will receive individual mentoring and regular performance reviews.

James Lockwood, Headmaster at Woodhouse Grove, said:

“Woodhouse Grove has always been known for its proud sporting heritage and exceptional sports facilities and coaching. The launch of the Grove Golf Academy further extends the school’s sports offering, enabling even more of pupils to reach their sporting potential – whether they are aiming to simply enjoy golf on a social level, represent the school or succeed at the highest levels of performance and competition. Combined with the multitude of opportunities already available to our pupils, both in and out of the classroom, I am excited to see how the Grove Golf Academy will add to the outstanding education that Woodhouse Grove offers young people.” Taking the next step either in the UK or across the Atlantic.

Nathan Stead, Head of Golf, said

“Woodhouse Grove has always been committed to providing exceptional opportunities for its pupils, and I am incredibly excited to head up the launch of our new Golf Academy. Golf is a sport that develops character, resilience and lifelong skills alongside technical ability. My vision is to create an inspiring environment where every student – from complete beginner to aspiring elite players – can flourish through expert coaching, outstanding facilities and a genuine love of the game. I look forward to establishing a programme that will become a cornerstone of sporting excellence within the school.”
