Ad-hoc Boarding

A home from home, whenever you need it.
Flexible, occasional boarding for day pupils who need to stay for a night, a few days, or a week at a time. Everything a full boarder enjoys, available to your child when it matters most.
Not all boarding looks the same
Life doesn’t always fit neatly around the school timetable. Whether you’re travelling for work, heading abroad on holiday, or your child has an early start for a school trip or a big fixture, we believe the solution should be simple, welcoming and genuinely useful.
Ad-hoc boarding at Woodhouse Grove gives our day pupils the option to stay overnight, or for several nights, on a flexible basis, without the full commitment of weekly or full boarding. Your child becomes part of the boarding community for the duration of their stay, fully included, properly cared for and settled in a way that feels like second nature.
When it comes in handy
Families use ad-hoc boarding for all sorts of reasons. Here are some of the most common:
- Parents travelling abroad
Business trips, conferences or holidays don’t have to mean complicated childcare arrangements. Your child simply stays with us. - Early morning starts
School trips, matches or Duke of Edinburgh expeditions with a pre-dawn departure are far less stressful when your child is already on site. - Exam season
Allows students to stay close to school in the lead-up to important assessments, with access to quiet prep time and the full support of boarding staff. - Fixtures and tournaments
Big sporting or arts commitments that start early or finish late needn’t mean a late-night drive home. Students stay the night and are ready to perform.
Everything included, nothing compromised
Ad-hoc boarders are treated exactly the same as our full-time boarding community. There’s no pared-back version of the experience here.

A boarding community that genuinely includes you
What makes boarding at Woodhouse Grove distinctive is that our boarders stay together throughout the term, on a no-exeat-weekend basis. That means your child never faces an empty or lonely boarding house, instead they’re welcomed into a warm community no matter the stay.
Our boarding staff are experienced, attentive and genuinely invested in every young person in their care, whether they’re in their first night or their third year with us. Your child will be looked after properly, and you’ll be kept informed every step of the way.
