Reducing Waste at The Grove

84% of our General waste and recyclable collections go on to be recycled. And 16% goes to refuse derived fuel. Zero of our waste goes to landfill.

In 2025, 27 tonnes of wood waste was collected by Leeds Wood Recycling, saving 1.4 tonnes of CO2. We continue to support this social enterprise by diverting all wood waste to them. We have also supported the Gambian Trust with various donations of old textbooks and resources no longer used at the school.

Our Cleaning department and Catering staff have moved to more Eco friendly products. We now use Soap2O handwash, a company on a mission to eliminate the unnecessary shipment of water and use of single use plastics. We continue to reduce the use of disposables in the Catering department, for example with reusable aprons and lids or covers instead of clingfilm.

Food waste goes to ReFood. Food waste collected by ReFood is processed through anaerobic digestion, generating renewable energy and producing nutrient-rich biofertiliser that supports sustainable agriculture. This circular approach helps cut greenhouse gas emissions, reduces reliance on fossil fuels and chemical fertilisers, and ensures food waste is put to productive use rather than contributing to landfill-related emissions.

Used cooking oil gets recycled through our supplier Olleco to create biodiesel.
