Staying Connected after Year 13.
At Woodhouse Grove, rugby is more than just a sport; it’s a significant part of many students’ lives. As Year 13 draws to a close, it’s natural for students to worry about leaving behind the routines and camaraderie built during their school years. However, here at The Grove, our sense of community ensures those opportunities never truly end.
One fantastic way we maintain this connection is through the Old Grovians (OG) Sevens rugby team. This team brings together alumni from across the years, forming a group with a wide age range who compete in Sevens tournaments not only across the UK but around the world. This year, the OG Sevens team will even take to the field in Dubai.
It’s inspiring to see students transition from Year 13 straight into the OG Sevens team, or join later after their university studies. Freddy Clark, a former First XV captain, shares his experience:
“When I was at The Grove, I had the privilege of being the First Team captain. I didn’t want my time playing rugby for Woodhouse to end, so I continued playing at Northumbria University. After graduating, I joined the OG Sevens team. It’s amazing to play alongside old school friends and even others who were older or younger than me at school, and I never had the chance to play with them before. I’m especially excited for the Sevens tournament in Dubai this year!”
The OG Sevens team is just one example of how our students remain part of the Woodhouse Grove family long after they leave. Whether on the rugby pitch, at reunions, or through other alumni initiatives, the bond formed here is one that lasts a lifetime.
