We are delighted to announce that our Head Prefects for 2020-21 are Aisha Mian and James Swarbrigg. All of our school prefects are selected based on the contribution they have made to school life over the years and their ability to be true ambassadors of Woodhouse Grove.
James and Aisha both joined the Grove in Year 7. James is studying Maths, Chemistry and English Literature at A-level and hopes to study Chemistry at university. Aisha is studying Chemistry, Psychology and Biology, having already achieved an AS in Finance and is planning on studying Dentistry.
We caught up with James and Aisha to find out a little bit more about them. A full list of our prefects can be viewed at the bottom of the page.

How did you feel when you found out that you were Head Prefects?
James – I was very surprised, but also thrilled. I had always hoped that one day I could undertake the role of a school prefect, but was not expecting to be chosen for Head Prefect.
Aisha – I felt extremely excited and honoured to be representing the school.
What part of the role is most exciting?
Aisha – I am most excited about talking to different pupils, communicating their feedback to teachers and having that input to make changes to school life. I am also keen to liaise with parents and help out with more school events such as open days.
Are you nervous about anything?
James – I am definitely nervous about the infamous end of year speech at prize giving! Although I have spoken in front of smaller audiences before, I have never had to speak in front of a large audience at such a prestigious event.
Aisha – I would say that I am most nervous about upholding the reputation of the role and following in the footsteps of previous, great Head Prefects.
Have you been involved as Head Prefects already?
James – Yes, we recently had to film a short video clip introducing ourselves and the school to potential parents attending the virtual open day.
Do you think you will work well together?
James – Yes I’m sure we will. We are both from the same friendship group within the year and have known each other since Year 7.
What do you like best about being at Woodhouse Grove?
Aisha – My favourite part of being here (and what I feel distinguishes it from other schools) is the family atmosphere. Teachers are very happy to help and the pupils are all friendly. The Grove has a fantastic ethos, as does the boarding community.
What co-curricular activities have you enjoyed?
James – Since Year 7 I have thoroughly enjoyed playing sport at the Grove. I think the range of co-curricular activities is great. Over the last seven years I have played mainly rugby and cricket for the school, but have also had the opportunity to be involved in football and cross country and many other co-curricular activities.
Anything else you would like to share?
James – I am very grateful for the opportunity to take on such an honourable role within the school and feel that this has been the perfect way to fully conclude my time at the Grove.
Aisha – It sounds cheesy, but I have loved my time at the Grove and I will be very sad to leave next year. It has genuinely shaped the person I am today and I feel incredibly grateful to be able to come here!
We wish all our prefects the very best for this academic year.
