Yes!

Our U18s have only gone and won the Natwest Schools’ Cup Plate competition!

The National Plate Final took place at Sixways Stadium, Worcester on Tuesday 13th March with Woodhouse Grove facing Trinity School, Croydon. Grovians young and old watched the match with bated breath – or followed our Headmaster’s increasingly excited tweets on the day.

The Grove boys hit the ground running and were awarded a penalty try after 8 minutes with Trinity down to 14 with a yellow card. The loyal Grovian crowd showed their support with some enthusiastic, if not particularly tuneful, singing for James Whitcombe’s try and continued pressure from the Grove saw them lead 17-0 at half time. Joe Pearson and Joe Carpenter both demonstrated what they were made of in the second half with some super tries and – despite a monumental effort by Trinity – the Grove came out the victors with a resounding 36-14 win.

The Grove’s 1st Team Rugby Coach, Joe Bedford (former Leeds Carnegie, Rotherham Titans and Newport Gwent Dragons player) had this to say:

To say we are proud of the U18s is an understatement. This is a new high for Grove rugby and we’re sure our younger players will be inspired by what the U18s have achieved.

I am an individual…

…yet I am part of something incredible
