About Boarding at The Grove

Explore this section

Boarding is a very special part of our school community.

We have interviewed different members of our boarding staff team and some of our current boarders to offer a glimpse into the world of Grove Boarding. From academic support to boarding food, here is the lowdown on what makes boarding at The Grove extraordinary.

Academic Support

“In the boarding community at Woodhouse Grove, our commitment to academic excellence is bolstered by our comprehensive academic prep support system, which stands out for its effectiveness and personalisation. Supervised prep sessions, held in our library and cutting-edge Sixth Form Centre, provide dedicated time for students to excel in their studies, with sessions running from Monday to Thursday. These sessions are not just about completing work but are structured to facilitate effective revision and coursework completion. Our close collaboration with the school, sixth form team, and heads of departments ensures that students receive tailored support plans and timely assistance when needed. Tutor meetings, guided by school policy and reporting systems, allow students to track their progress with clarity and purpose. Testimonials from our students consistently highlight the supportive nature of our academic prep sessions. With accessibility to academic staff across various subjects, students can tap into a wealth of expertise and guidance. Furthermore, our sixth form pupils benefit from exclusive access to designated prep areas within the Sixth Form Centre, further enhancing their academic journey.”

Trips and Activities

“Trips and activities are vital to our Boarding community’s experience at The Grove. Most of our boarders are international, so taking part in trips and activities means seeing the country where they reside better. Day trips to Bolton Abbey, or Ilkley Moor mean that they can take in local heritage and get out of the school environment. Trips are just as important to our non-international boarders too. Living in the environment where you go to school can sometimes be overwhelming, especially during exam time. Trips provide an important balance to a boarder’s life at The Grove. While they are working hard to revise, knowing that they have a trip to Alton Towers, bowling or mini golf at the weekend, can be the best motivation.”

Food

“The food on boarding is often ‘hot topic’, there is a salad bar which includes a personal favourite being the Bombay potatoes, and always two hot options including a meat alternative. I think all will agree the catering staff always put on variety of different options throughout the week and have a lot of pride in the food they provide to boarders.

The Bombays deserve a mention….”

Community

“It’s Pride Month!! 🏳️‍🌈 So, Miller is looking suitably bright and colourful! In Boarding at Woodhouse Grove School, we celebrate all our young people; whoever they are and whatever they identify as! I love decorating our House to celebrate different things, but this month felt especially important! It made a few of the girls stop and smile, and that’s enough for me!”
