There are lots of things to keep boarders occupied on weekends. Saturdays are usually reserved for sport matches and free time, when boarders can choose to go the shops, explore the local area or join in some house activities. Sundays are usually the excursion day when both boarding houses go out together to a nearby attraction, from Go-Karting to a scenic walk or a stately home.

Prep is done in either the IT suite or the school library dependent on a boarder's house status. This is supervised by boarding staff, who can assist with any queries. Older students may choose to work more independently in their boarding houses during prep time and during quiet time where necessary.
What happens if boarders are ill?
The school has a fully equipped Medical Centre which is staffed until 5pm Monday to Friday. Out of these hours, boarding staff are responsible for student welfare and will take care of them overnight until they can be referred to the school nurse. If they are contagious, they will be sent home to their parents or guardian. The school’s Health and Safety policy can be obtained by contacting the Headmaster's PA, Sally Hargrave: Hargrave.S@woodhousegrove.co.uk.

How much free time is there?
We know it is important for young people to have time to decompress and have space for themselves, so all evening activities and some weekend excursions are optional. However, we always encourage boarders to take part and put into their experience with us, as this is when they will get the best out of it.
Is it usual for boarders to feel homesick?
Yes! Any lifestyle change can cause people to feel unsettled, but even more so with younger people and those experiencing a new culture, language and/or some independence for the first time. But in order to grow, it is also important to put ourselves out of our comfort zones. Our experienced and supportive boarding team are always on hand to guide, advise and look out for both pupils and parents!
