Sun, open ground and the sound of several hundred students cheering on their house team. That was the scene at Woodhouse Grove last week as the School came together for our huge annual House Cross-Country Race.

Organised by Mr Exeter, the race brought together students from Year 7 all the way through to Year 13 — a genuine cross-section of the school community, competing side by side in what turned out to be a brilliantly sunny afternoon on the grounds.

What made the day so special wasn’t just the racing. It was the breadth of it. This wasn’t an event for the fastest few; it was designed to welcome mixed abilities and celebrate participation as much as performance. Every student who pulled on their house colours and turned up to run was part of something bigger than themselves — a tradition of friendly competition and school spirit that sits right at the heart of Grovian life.

From nervous Year 7s finding their feet to Sixth Formers leading from the front, the atmosphere was exactly what school sport should be — joyful, inclusive and genuinely fun.

Well done to every student who took part and a particular thank you to Mr Exeter for putting together an event the whole school could be proud of.
