Now that the new academic year is well underway, we thought we would shed some light on one of the many exciting placements our students undertook as part of our Partnerships Programme over the summer term, one of the many initiatives we offer our sixth form students here at Woodhouse Grove School.
Isabel B in Year 13 is our Marketing Prefect for this year, and will be working with the Marketing team to create campaigns and social-media content. With aspirations in the Marketing industry, Isabel knew she wanted to take part in our Partnership Programme to learn more about this field.
Isabel recently completed a placement with local marketing agency Ponderosa, where she was offered hands-on industry experience in sports-focused content:
‘I was selected to help with the brand ‘Science In Sport’ (SiS) to carry out weekly data analysis. One week when analysing recent trends and competitor success, due to upcoming events, I found that marathon training was big in consumer searches. I took this and made a content plan which included an athlete collab series, ‘Fuel Like a Pro’, containing a range of reels and carousels showcasing how a range of athletes would fuel their marathons.’

Isabel knew she wanted to work in the marketing industry, but didn’t know which route to take. Ponderosa allowed her to find her footing in the industry while still in full-time education, an invaluable asset to not only her bank of work experience but also instilling in her a sense of confidence in her chosen career field:
‘My work placement allowed me to gain hands-on experience and confirm my interest and passion for marketing, whilst also providing insight into other business sectors such as data analysis. Thanks to Ponderosa, I got the confirmation I needed to pursue this career path, and I am now working towards a degree apprenticeship in digital marketing and data analysis.’

The Sixth Form team offer support and guidance before our students embark on their placements, ensuring not only the quality of the placement but the student’s confidence in their own abilities. As Isabel herself comments:
‘I worked closely with the Sixth Form team to organise my marketing work placement, pursue new experience opportunities, write applications and manage my workload. Since moving up to Sixth Form, ‘workplace’ networking and relationships has become a more important focus in my school life, so I built a support system amongst my teachers and Sixth Form staff.’
